Informazioni storia

The work represents a sculptural group with a female deity accompanied by a figure of a small Triton. The female deity has been interpreted as Tethys (Nereid, mother of Achilles) and its composition derives from a Hellenistic original inspired by Eutychides' Tyche of Antioch (c. 290 BC) or from an original group by Skopas with Tethys and Achilles.
The group is a Roman copy from the 2nd century AD and was found in Via Marsala, near Termini station, in 1941.
