Informazioni storia

Wall panel in opus sectile, i.e. composed of inlays of coloured marble and mother-of-pearl, depicting the scene of the rape of Hylas by the Nymphs.
It comes from the Basilica of Junius Bassus, which later became the church of St. Andrew Catabarbara and was destroyed during the construction of the Pontifical Seminary of Oriental Studies, in Via Napoleon III. The panel was owned by the Del Drago family, then Massimo, and finally passed to the Museo Nazionale Romano.
