Informazioni storia

Wrapped in a large cloak, with her face supported by her hand and her elbow resting on a plane, the young woman represented by this sculpture seems to be looking into the distance. It derives from a well-known model, that of the Muses created by Philiskos of Rhodes, and much replicated. Very faithful to the original, it was sculpted for the Horti Spei Veteris and was found in 1929 in an underground tunnel near Villa Fiorelli, in an area that still belonged to the Horti. In the same excavation the Musa Melpomene of the Museo Nazionale Romano was found.
